FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We’re all ears!
Before Getting Pierced
What age can I get a piercing?
- 5 years and older: Lobes
- 13 years and older: Other Lobes
- 15 years and older: Helix
- 16 years and older: Conch, Daith, Forward Helix, Flat Helix, Tragus, Rook, Belly, Nose, Septum
- 18 years and older: Industrial, Surface Bars, Dermal, Nipples, Genital (female only), Facial Piercings, Oral Piercings.
Will it hurt?
- Just a little... but not as much as you think. Most people describe it as a "small pinch". Everyone feels things differently, but the actual piercing is over in seconds, and for most part, it’s totally manageable. You might feel a dull ache or some tenderness afterwards (and yes, it’ll be sore to the touch - so DON'T do it!)
- If you're like, "nah girl, I don't suffer" then Pain Free Piercing Saturdays is for you. We host a qualified doctor in studio who completely numbs you up! Keep an eye on our socials to see when the next one’s happening.
Can I bring my own jewellery?
- Do you take your own shampoo to the hair salon? No 😉 We only pierce with jewellery we sell - because safety matters. Outside jewellery can’t be guaranteed for metal quality or sterilisation, which puts your piercing at risk. If we sourced it, we know what's in it!
- The good news? Our vast selection is gorgeous AND piercing-safe. We stock only premium, biocompatible metals such as 9ct & 14ct nickel-free gold (white, yellow, rose), implant-grade titanium, and 316L surgical steel. Trust us, you’ll find something you love!
What is ear curation?
- Ear curation is like personal styling, but for piercings. It’s all about creating a look that suits your anatomy, your taste, and your long-term goals, with placements and jewellery chosen just for you.
- Our Piercers and Ear Stylists will walk you through the whole process and help you build something that fully represents you.
Do I need to book?
- Nope! We’re a walk-in studio. Just pop in when you’ve got a bit of time to browse, ask questions, and get pierced without the pressure of a ticking clock. We’ll be ready when you are!
Aftercare
How do I look after my jewellery?
- Treat your jewellery like the little treasure it is. Avoid lotions and potions where possible like hair products or perfumes that may contain reactants.
- All our jewellery is tarnish-free, but giving them a little extra love keeps them looking their best. For everyday cleaning, use a dry, soft cloth. For a deeper clean, gentle soap and warm water will do the trick (just make sure to dry them properly after). You can also pop in-store and let us clean your jewellery for you in our hydrosonic cleaners.

How do I remove my jewellery at home?
- If your piercing is internally threaded it can be loosened by unscrewing it. Remember: Lefty loosey, righty tighty.
- Unscrew the top by turning it anti-clockwise to loosen, and clockwise to tighten it back.
- Got a threadless top? Just push it in until it feels snug and secure. When removing, pull the top and post apart in opposite directions gently but firmly.
- (If you're unsure, feel free to pop in and we’ll help you out.)
What Aftercare products can I use?
- We offer our own in-house aftercare essentials, packed with gentle, skin-friendly ingredients to keep things clean and calm.
During the Piercing
Do you pierce with a needle or a gun?
- Needles. Always. Guns are a no-go here. They’re imprecise, hard to sterilise properly, and can cause unnecessary trauma to your skin. We use single-use, sterile needles designed for clean entry, minimal damage, and better healing. Your body deserves proper care - and that starts with the right tools.
What jewellery do you use to pierce with?
- Only the good stuff. We pierce using high-quality, biosafe metals like 14k nickel-free solid gold jewellery, implant-grade titanium, and surgical steel. All our piercing studs come with flatback labrets for extra comfort - all sold as singles. Styles vary by location, and tops are sold separately so you can mix, match, and make it yours!
After the Piercing
What are the healing times?
- Healing timelines vary depending on the piercing type, your body, stress levels, sleeping habits and adherence to aftercare. Some piercings heal faster, others take their sweet time. Either way, trust the process and please (seriously) don’t touch.
- You’ll know your piercing’s healed when there’s no more swelling, redness, flaking, tenderness, or oozing, and it just feels like part of you again.
- General Healing Time Frames:
- Conch: 6-9 months
- Earlobe: 6-9 months
- Helix: 6-12 months
- Flat: 6-9 months
- Daith: 6-9 months
- Rook: 6-9 months
- Industrial: 8 months - a year
- Tragus: 6-9 months
- Nose: 2-4 months
- Nipple: 6-12 months
- Remember: Slow and steady wins the healing race. And a Doughnut Pillow is a winner.
What is normal during the healing process?
- It’s totally normal to experience things like:
- - A bit of bleeding or seeping
- - Redness or swelling
- - Tenderness or bruising
- - Itching (super common)
- - A little soreness
- - Dryness or crust forming around the jewellery
- You might also notice some white-yellow fluid that hardens into a crust - it’s part of the body’s natural healing process. All of this is completely normal, even if it looks a little weird.
- That said, if something feels off or you're just not sure, reach out. Check-ups and check-ins are always free, and we’re here to help! No question or concern is too small.
During healing:
- Some things might feel strange, but they’re totally normal. You might notice:
- - Discolouration or redness
- - Itching
- - A whitish-yellow fluid that crusts around your jewellery (not pus)
- - Swelling or tightness around the area
- It’s also normal for the jewellery to feel a little snug or not move freely - don’t force it. Just keep it clean and let your body do its thing.
- Just a note: a piercing can look healed before it actually is. Healing happens from the outside in, so even if it feels fine, the inside might still need time. Be patient, keep up your cleaning routine, and don’t take the jewellery out until we give you the go-ahead.
- Even healed piercings can close fast, sometimes in a matter of hours. If you want to keep it, keep something in it.
When can I change my jewellery?
- It depends on how your piercing is healing. You might be able to downsize your post after a few months, but switching to a hoop or new style too early can cause issues. Pop in and let one of our piercers take a look - we’ll let you know what’s safe.
I have a bump! What now?
- Bumps happen, and they’re super common - so try not to panic! It doesn’t always mean something’s wrong, but it does mean your piercing needs a little extra love.
- There are a few types:
- Hypertrophic scarring: A firm, raised bump near the piercing hole (usually shows up a few months in).
- Localised infection: Red, swollen, maybe a bit oozy. Sometimes includes a pimple-like bump.
- Best move? Come see one of our pro piercers. We’ll check it out and guide you on what’s next. One option might be our Silicone Piercing Disc - a comfy little fix that helps flatten and calm bumps when worn consistently for 2 to 4 weeks as well as our miracle Bump Oil.
